Hilton to Open Nine Hotels in Central America

From: Laura Frew
Date: Monday, 11th September 2017

Hilton will add about 1,300 hotel rooms to its Central America inventory, with the recent signings of nine hotels across five different Hilton brands. The Central American windfall now accounts for more than 10 percent of Hilton's Latin American pipeline, which stands at about 11,300 rooms across 70 properties. The latest signing is the 130-room Hilton Guatemala City, the company's first property in the country. The hacienda-style hotel, a conversion of the existing Hotel Vista Real Guatemala, will be renovated and is expected to open under the Hilton banner in the fourth quarter of 2018. The property offers elegant colonial architecture, landscaped gardens, and spacious rooms and suites. In addition to an outdoor pool, a fitness center and a signature restaurant, the hotel will offer about 3,000 square feet of meeting space, including a ballroom.

The other upcoming properties, slated for Belize, Costa Rica, Honduras and Panama, include the following:

• In Belize, the Mahogany Bay Resort and Beach Club, Curio Collection by Hilton, rendered above, is expected to open by the end of this year. The luxury resort, part of the Mahogany Beach Village resort community, will offer 205 cottage- and villa-style, rustic-chic rooms on a 60-acre property on San Pedro key. The development will include beach clubs, private residences, a spa, meeting spaces and a public space called the Village.

• The Gran Hotel Costa Rica, Curio Collection by Hilton, will debut in the first quarter of next year in the capital of San José. The 79-room hotel promises a fitness center, a signature restaurant and a piano bar with panoramic city views.

• The eco-friendly Botanika Osa Peninsula, Curio Collection by Hilton, will open in 2020 in a tropical rainforest on the southwestern tip of Costa Rica. The 176-room resort will offer an outdoor natural pool, a fitness center, a luxury spa, restaurants and a 1,550-square-foot conference center.

• Also set to debut in 2020 in Costa Rica is the 132-room DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel San José La Sabana, which will be in a mixed-use tower between ground-floor retail outlets and upper-story residential units. It will have a health club and a spa on-site.

• Another property in the same area, the Hampton Inn by Hilton San José La Sabana, is expected to open in 2021. The 150-room hotel will include a dozen suites and offer nearly 2,000 square feet of meeting space.

• The Hilton Garden Inn Santa Ana is scheduled to open in 2019 in the greater San Jose metropolitan area of Costa Rica. The 138-room property will offer 1,500 square feet of meeting space, as well as a full-service restaurant and an indoor pool.

• The Hilton Garden Inn Tegucigalpa will mark the brand's debut in Honduras when it opens in 2021. The 173-room hotel will be part of a mixed-use complex that includes the Real de Minas mall, office space and entertainment outlets. The hotel will include multiple restaurants on-site, as well as an outdoor pool, a fitness center and 13,000 square feet of meeting space.

• In Panama, the Hampton Inn by Hilton David will open in 2019 in the Chiriqui province. The 120-room property promises multiple F&B outlets, a 24-hour market with snacks and sundries, and direct access to a casino.

The new hotels will complement the 14 Hilton properties already in Central America, and the more than 100 the company operates in Latin America.
